The mass spectrometers are located in Room 2142, Department of Chemistry, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1101 University Avenue, Madison, WI 53706

Pandemic Laboratory Operations:  The mass spec staff will work staggered shifts to process submitted samples.  The goal is to process samples every day (M-F).  Samples are submitted at the north door of room 2142 by assigning them log numbers and placing the samples taped to their submission sheets in the refrigerator.  When the analyses are completed, the data and remaining sample will be found on the table outside of the south door of room 2142.  People submitting samples and picking up data should not enter room 2142.

Trained operators (users) should sign up on-line for time on specific spectrometers.  Masks, safety glasses, and gloves are required.  All sample preparation for LCMS, GCMS, and MALDI should be done in the operator's home laboratory.  One person per instrument with up to four people at time in room 2142.  This means that one operator at the Acquity, one operator at the GCMS, and one operator at one of the MALDIs, and one staff member can be present in the lab at the same time.  Each user is expected to clean the working area before and after running a mass spectrometer.  The next user of a particular instrument should wait 15 minutes before signing in.  To clean, spray alcohol solution onto a paper towel and wipe the surfaces touched.  Reservations:  https://massspeccal.chem.wisc.edu

All face-to-face instrument training is suspended until further notice.  All operators are required to follow UW-Madison and Chemistry Department safety and pandemic guidelines.  Masks, safety glasses, and social distancing are necessary at this time.
